Beechcraft Model D18S (CF-MPH)

Since the creation of RCMP Air Services in 1937, aircraft have played an ever increasing role in law enforcement. Duties include surveillance, transporting prisoners, supplies and personnel to remote locations, carrying out emergency flights, and more.

This Beechcraft Model D18S Twin Beech was the first of two purchased in 1946 to replace the four deHavilland DH 90 Dragonfly aircraft transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force at the outbreak of the Second World War. The RCMP eventually purchased 5 D18S aircraft.

CMPH was retired in 1970 after logging 11,286 hours of flying time -- or roughly 3,269,543 km -- in a variety of police duties in Ontario, Québec, and Atlantic Canada. It sister aircraft, CF-MPI, retired in 1973 and is on display at the Bomber Command Museum of Canada in Manton, Alberta.
