The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications built along an east-to-west line across China's historic northern borders in part to protect the Chinese Empire or its prototype states from intrusions by various nomadic groups or military incursions of various warrior peoples.

The Great Wall is 21,196 kilometers in total. And it's almost more than 30 million steps to climb entire sections of the Great Wall. But don't worry, most travelers only hike about 3 hours over 4-6 kilometers, or about 5,000 steps.

In the Badaling section of the Great Wall, we walked up and down hundreds of steps during our 2 hour tour.
