Inside the railway arch is the Thirsty Scholar pub and an outside eating area. This mural is on the side of the arch next to the seating area rather than the pub which has its wall covered in a graffiti style design.
The pub is in the area near to the university and has free music nights and is popular with the university students.
The Thirsty Scholar commissioned the mural, and it consists of many items that are associated with Manchester.
The artist publicised the meaning of some of the objects in the mural, but has left other things for people to identify for themselves.
Some of the items are as follows...
A fingerpost sign pointing to Little Ireland because that is what this area was once called because of the number of Irish people who moved to Manchester to find work.
The cartoon character ' Count Duckula' because the animation was made by Cosgrove Hall Films in Bramhall, a suburb of Manchester.
A bottle of Vimto because this popular fruit drink was made in a factory not far from here and there is a 4 metre tall sculpture of a Vimto bottle there.

A banner with the words 'Suffragette City', probably refers to Emmaline Pankhurst, a campaigner for women's right to vote and who was born in Moss Side a suburb of Manchester.

The slogan 'Workers Rights' refers to an event in 1819 when a peaceful demonstartion was broken up by cavalry and 18 people were killed.

A keyboard that looks like a type writer keyboard but spells out 'CODE BREAKER' refers to Alan Turing who acted as a code breaker during World War II and later worked at Manchester University where some very early computers were developed.
