TEXT ON THE HISTORICAL MARKER

Sugarloaf Mountain
Sugarloaf Mountain became a signal station for both armies during the Civil War. Area farmers used the mountain to hide their horses from enemy troops. At the time of the Battle of Monocacy, Confederate forces found and claimed nearly 200 horses there.
