City Hotel Meppel used to be called Hotel de Reisiger. Reisiger can be translated from Dutch as traveler. There is a work of art in front of the hotel. It is a metal globe with a baby dragon on top.
The statue was made by an artist from Meppel, Wessel de Ruijter. The dragon has outgrown the diapers and is ready to go out into the wide world. He carries provisions in the sack hanging from the stick on his back.
Artist Wessel de Ruijter prefers to work in metal and this sculpture is made of steel plate.
The earth has been faithfully recreated. The globe is attached to a tripod and has the exact angle of inclination of the Earth.
