In front of the War Monument dedicated to all the Maltese dead of World War I and World War II, two eternal flames are placed.
The War Memorial is a commemorative obelisk which was dedicated on 11 November 1938 by Governor Charles Bonham-Carter in memory of those killed in the First World War. In 1949 it was rededicated and now also includes those killed from the Second World War.
The monument is an obelisk in the shape of a Latin cross and is made of sandstone. It is located in the middle of a roundabout, a place formerly used for public executions.
In 2012 the Eternal Flame was added, in fact there are two Eternal Flames. The Eternal Flames can be seen from a distance as they are placed at a height of 2 metres in a bronze chalice.
