The marker is located in a small park just off Hwy 2 east of the town of Gananoque. It is on the site of Ferncliff, where she summered.
Marker text reads:
"Agnes Maule Machar was an influential social commentator in Victorian Canada. She was a leading proponent of Christian social reform and Canadian nationalism, infused with imperial sentiment, which she promoted in poems, biographies, historical works, and didactic novels that were reflective of her times. In prominent late-19th-century periodicals, she debated intellectual leaders in insightful essays on a wide range of topics, arguing for temperance, labour reform, and women's rights, including their access to higher education. This park was part of Ferncliff, the cottage where she summered and found inspiration."
Machar Park is located off Windsor Street.
