In 1802, the North End Society was formed provide a place of worship for the isolated residents of the northern part of New Salem. In 1807, they built a the present church on Fay Road. It was then moved to it's present location on Elm Street in North New Salem Village in 1836.
The church was a Methodist denomination from 1867-1879 but by 1883 it was being served by Congregational ministers. In 1902, it was rededicated as a Congregational Church. (

The North Congregational Church of New Salem is three bays wide with entrances on the first and third bay and a 5 by 9 pane double hung window in the center. The doors and the window have pointed arched louvers to give the appearance of a the Gothic style. On the second level are 5 by 5 pane windows flanked by green shutters and topped by pointed arched louvers at the first and third bay. The pediment has an green, ornamental diamond shaped louver.
Rising from the gable roof is a two stage steeple. The lower stage is a square tower and the upper stage is a belfry with green louvered openings with rounded tops.A small spire rises from the center of the belfry.
The sides of the church have four 5 by 9 pane double hung windows with green shutters and topped with pointed arched louvers at each bay. The south side has a small window with green shutters at the first bay and a projecting auxiliary entrance between the second and third large window.
