Talk about an bizarre way to die....
Lloyd J Iredell was the business manager of the Allentown Chronicle and News, the local newspaper started by his father. Lloyd also liked to dabble in unusual (at the time) thing mechanical and innovative. Lloyd was giving a demonstration of an automobile that had a unique propulsion system in Allentown's center square.
The automobile was known as a "wind wagon" which used a propellor as the primary mode of propulsion. Rather than being shaft driven, the car was wind driven.
Lloyd had given a demonstration of the automobile and stepped out. As he was brushing his clothing off, he was struck by the rapidly revolving propeller. This caused a triple fracture of his arm and a compound fracture of his skull.
The incident took place on 26 January 1911 and Lloyd passed away at 12:45 am on 27 January 2011.
As he was only 32 years old, leaving a widow and a son, it is considered a life cut short.
The tombstone is a tree with its limbs cut off. It is located near the center of the Fairview Cemetery. Other Iredells are present
