In search for a waymark in this category, I used this website for some potential new non waymarked Howard Johnsons (visit link)
On the aerial view / picture on the website you can clearly see where the Howard Johnson previously was located and where now is the senior apartments buildings.

"A company owned unit, San Clemente was well-sited along I-5 and opened in 1968. With its excellent location, the Restaurant enjoyed continued success and was converted into a Big Boy in 1986 after Marriott had purchased and dismantled the Howard Johnson Company."
