[FR] Le cimetière de Hauterives ne se signalerait pas à l’attention s’il n’abritait ce qui est sans aucun doute l’un des plus étonnants tombeaux existant en France : celui du facteur Cheval.
Ferdinand CHEVAL (1836-1924) était un facteur français qui passa 33 ans de sa vie à édifier un « Palais idéal » et 8 années supplémentaires à bâtir son propre tombeau, tous deux considérés comme des chefs-d’œuvre de l’art naïf. Ramassant inlassablement des cailloux lors de ses tournées, il constitua une maçonnerie pour édifier ce surprenant bâtiment composé de grottes, de tours et d’escaliers, le tout accompagné d’un très grand nombre de symboles (religieux, mythologiques...). Il puisait l’inspiration de ses créations de son imagination et de ses rêves.

Ferdinand CHEVAL (1836-1924) was a French postman who spent 33 years of his life building an “Ideal Palace” and another 8 years building his own tomb, both considered masterpieces of naïve art . Tirelessly picking up pebbles during his rounds, he built a masonry to build this surprising building composed of caves, towers and stairs, all accompanied by a very large number of symbols (religious, mythological...). He drew inspiration for his creations from his imagination and his dreams.
