[ES] “La Cuesta de los Ciegos es una escalinata de granito que permite la subida desde la calle de Segovia hacia los Jardines de Las Vistillas. Un escalera en forma de zig zag que a los pies del Viaducto de Segovia asciende una de las pendientes más pronunciadas de la ciudad gracias a 254 escalones.

Un rincón poco transitado del casco histórico que ya aparece en planos de la ciudad datados en 1656, aunque su nombre actual llegaría más tarde con distintas leyendas y versiones, que van desde la curación milagrosa de dos ciegos por obra de San Francisco de Asís, hasta un supuesto edificio colindante donde vivían músicos invidentes.

Su historia nos lleva desde el subsuelo medieval, que aún conserva un entramado de galerías y pasadizos, hasta la fuente que encontramos a sus pies, llamada Caño de La Vecindad, que conserva el escudo de la Villa de Madrid durante el periodo de la República.

Desde la escalera, con su característica construcción de piedra con escalas por ambos lados y sus recurrentes descansos, se va descubriendo una interesante vista tanto del Viaducto y la calle de Segovia, las zonas verdes del Jardín de las Vistillas y la parte trasera de la Catedral de la Almudena.”

[EN] “Cuesta de los Ciegos is a granite stairway that allows you to go up from Segovia street to Las Vistillas Gardens. A zig zag staircase that at the foot of the Segovia Viaduct ascends one of the steepest slopes in the city thanks to 254 steps.

A little-traveled corner of the old town that already appears on city maps dated 1656, although its current name would come later with different legends and versions, ranging from the miraculous healing of two blind men by the work of Saint Francis of Assisi, to a supposed adjoining building where blind musicians lived.

Its history takes us from the medieval subsoil, which still preserves a network of galleries and passageways, to the fountain that we find at its feet, called Caño de La Vecindad, which preserves the shield of the Villa de Madrid during the Republic period.
