The Star Drug Store is on the United States Register og Historic Places, a Texas Historic landmark, and a Galveston County Point of Interest.
The building dates to 1886, and proudly boasts of being the oldest drug store in the state.
The horseshoe lunch counter was completed in 1917. In the 1920's the store was bought by George Clampitt and Grady Dickinson, who ran the enterprise until 1982.
Of note is the Star Drug Store was the first desegregated lunch counter in Galveston.
The building closed in 1998, and sat vacant until 2001, when the current owners purchased and restored the store to its original appearance. It was at this time, the two loft units were added to the enterprise.
The lofts are available for bookings through the website.
