Veterans Plaza, in Teague Park, is home to many memorials. This Persian Gulf War monument is the central monument of a trio, with the other two commemorating the ISIS Confrontation of 2014 and the Iraq War.
Text of Plaque: In 1990, Saddam Hussein ordered the invasion of neighboring Kuwait and the Persian Gulf War began with a massive air offensive known as Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After 42 days of relentless attacks by the U.S. and allied forces, US. President George H.W. Bush declared a cease-fire. By that time, most Iraqi forces in Kuwait had either surrendered or fled. Though the Gulf War was initially considered an unqualified success for the U.S. and international coalition, simmmering conflict in Iraq led to a second Gulf War known as the Iraq War in 2003.
