St. Mary's Parochial School was designed the the Classical Revival style by architect William Cadwell and built in 1903-1904 to serve St. Mary's Parish as a Roman Catholic elementary school. The symmetrically designed school has a basement level covered in brownstone and two upper levels made of brick.
The side facing Beaver street has a projecting central section which is three bays wide. The brownstone level has 3 pairs of 3 by 4 pane double hung windows. The first and second brick levels have a pair of three 3 by 3 pane windows over a single pane lower window, each with a 3 by 2 pane transom window. All windows in the brick levels are topped with a brownstone keystone and a brownstone sill. Between the levels is a terracotta plaque with the inscription ST. MARY'S SCHOOL framed by tall terracotta torches with ornate bottoms. This section is topped by a pediment with a fan window.
Flanking the central section are five bay sections with the same arrangement of windows at all levels. Flanking these sections is a protruding single bay three with an set of steps leading to a double door entrance at with a rounded transom window. Above is a pair of three 3 by 3 pane windows over a single pane lower window with a 3 by 2 pane transom window. On top is a pair of 3 by 2 pane windows. Beyond the single entrance bays are a protruding three bay section with the same arrangement of windows as the central sections.
Each end of the building has a three bay section, a protruding three bay central section with a central entrance framed by a rounded arch and a pediment at the roof. Above the entrance is pair of three 3 by 3 pane windows over a single pane lower window, each with a 3 by 2 pane transom window. All bays on the basement level have a single 3 by 4 pane double hung window. All remaining bays at brick upper levels have a single 3 by 3 pane windows over a single pane lower window with a 3 by 2 pane transom window.
Today the former St. Mary's Parochial School is a senior living apartment complex known as St Mary's Residence of New Britain.
