Hokoku Shrine was built in the 12th year of Meiji (1879) by the emperor.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537 – 1598), otherwise known as Kinoshita Tokichiro and Hashiba Hideyoshi, was a Japanese samurai and daimyo (feudal lord) of the late Sengoku period regarded as the second "Great Unifier" of Japan.
Hokoku Shrine and its large torii are located in the grounds of Osaka Castle.
