[EN] “The church of Santiago is of Romanesque origin although it was enlarged and reformed in the 14th and 16th centuries.

According to tradition, it was where the Knights of the Order of Santiago met, which is why shells abound throughout the building.

Its octagonal tower is a unique model in the city.

The church consists of a single wide nave and chapels between its buttresses. Its main chapel is octagonal and of ample proportions.

Access to the interior is through a small portico with a Renaissance aesthetic, but which maintains the Gothic tradition in its ribbed vaulting.

It is said that some of the most important leaders of the city were buried here, such as Nalvillos, also called El Cid de Ávila, or Gómez Ximeno, winner of twenty-five battles against the Moors.”
