"Situated in South Baileygate, under the shadow of the once great Pontefract Castle, All Saints Church stands as a living memorial to those who, down the ages and in many different ways have Worshipped and supported the Work of God in our town.
A place of worship since at least c.1300AD, All Saints has survived not only the destructive bombardments of multiple Castle Sieges during the Civil War, but also the many social upheavals of the last 700 or so years.
It is still very much alive and active today, both Spiritually and as a local landmark of significant historical interest. It is the Worship Centre for a community of Christians from Pontefract and the surrounding area who come to share fellowship with each other in communion with God and to sing His Praise and Worship Him in and through our lives.
Our living Church is nestled within the ruins of a much older building that was rendered ruinous during the Civil War Sieges of the Castle and Church. The Tower was used as a lookout during those battles and the building suffered many direct Canon-ball impacts and probably lost it's roof when the lead was melted down to make Musket Balls! The 'Useable' parts were built during the 19th. c. and the 1960's.
The Parish of All Saints, Pontefract is one of two parishes that form the Benefice of Pontefract. The other Parish is called the 'Parish of St. Giles with St. Marys'
As part of the Body of Christ in Pontefract it is our Mission....
'To provide Living Proof of a Loving God to a Watching World'
Service Details
Sundays
10.am Holy Communion Service -
This is our main Sunday service, and includes Hymns and some sung liturgy. Usually lasts for about an hour or so and is family friendly. Usually the music is led by our organist and a Music Group and includes both traditional hymns and more modern Worship Songs.
On the first Sunday of each month we try to follow a simpler and more modern liturgy and keep the service to just an hour in length.
6.30pm Evensong -
An evening service based around the Evensong tradition but adapted because we do not have a Choir. There are hymns and songs and settings for the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in a metrical style.
On the first Sunday each month the evening service will be Holy Communion.
Wednesdays
9.30am morning Holy Communion Service
A simple Communion service that is mainly spoken, but usually ends with a hymn or song."
