Op zijn website schrijft de beeldhouwer over deze sculptuur:
Op zijn hoogste, meest indrukwekkende en mooie moment heb ik een getijgolf vastgelegd. Als een fotograaf die afdrukt op één honderdste van een seconde. Zoals bij de opwaaierende rok van Marylin Monroe boven een luchtkoker van de metro. Of de houtsnede van De grote golf van Kanazawa van de Japanse kunstenaar Hokusai uit 1832. Dit zijn beelden geworden die in het collectieve geheugen gegrift staan. Maar ik heb meer tijd nodig om mijn fractie van een seconde vast te leggen. Ik kan deze klus niet klaren met één druk op de knop. Ik moet eerst de honderden kilo's klei kneden en manipuleren als waren ze de golf zelf. Om daar dan mallen van te maken en het beeld van de golf in brons te gieten zodat hij tastbaar wordt…

At its highest, most impressive and beautiful moment I captured a tidal wave. Like a photographer who prints at one hundredth of a second. Like Marylin Monroe's skirt blowing up over a subway vent. Or the woodcut of The great wave of Kanazawa by the Japanese artist Hokusai from 1832. These have become images that are etched in the collective memory. But I need more time to capture my split second. I can't get this job done with the push of a button. I first have to knead and manipulate the hundreds of kilos of clay as if they were the wave itself. To then make molds and cast the image of the wave in bronze so that it becomes tangible…
