Además de los tradicionales e históricos puentes que tiene la ciudad de Palencia, a raíz de cobrar importancia las isletas centrales sobre el río Carrión bien para convertirlas en zonas de parque o urbanizarlas con estructuras deportivas, se fueron tendiendo diferentes pasos peatonales o para bicicletas. Uno de estas pasarelas, aguas abajo es esta estructura.
Se accede a ella a través de la Avenida de Castilla y su trayectoria hacia el Este conecta con el casco viejo de la ciudad y con la iglesia de San Miguel. Desde el punto medio de su tablero, con cota muy elevada debido a su curvatura, se puede observar una buena panorámica de la ciudad vieja.
Características actuales de la obra. Se trata de una estructuras perpendicular al cauce mayor del río Carrión por la que se accede a la isla sur del cauce, conocida como Isla de Dos Aguas y a su popular parque. Tiene una longitud de 52 metros y una anchura cercana a los 6 metros y es de uso exclusivo para paseantes. Su tablero es acentuadamente curvo y no tiene apoyos intermedios por lo que la luz del vano se aproxima a los 40 metros.
Dispone de fuertes estribos de hormigón armado que sirven de apoyo a una estructura mixta de acero y hormigón. El intradós o parte inferior se compone de un arco metálico del tipo "espina" a base de un grueso tubo de acero de trayectoria horizontal que se solidariza con el tablero por medio de otros tubos menores formando V con alturas decrecientes desde el centro hacia estribos y cuyos vértices se sueldan al eje inferior y las cabezas superiores a una serie de chapas de acero que se empotran en la base de las losas de hormigón armado que componen la cubierta. Este sistema de triangulaciones son derivados de la viga en celosía tipo Warren. Son estructuras modernas y sencillas que cada vez se ven más en la pontonería peninsular.
En cubierta destaca un firme a base de traviesas de madera con estrías antideslizantes bien dispuestas y en cantos, barandillas de hierro compuestas de cuadradillos de diferente sección y cruces de San Andrés, empotrados en las losas de hormigón y que se cubren con un pasamanos de madera. El estribo izquierdo de la primera de las pasarelas, por la que se accede desde la Avenida de Castilla es más potente porque debe salvar el zócalo que produce el cauce en ese punto y dispone de escalinatas y rampas para acceder al paseo junto al río.
El proyecto es del estudio MV Arquitectos compuesto por Ignacio Martínez Molina, José Luis Gutiérrez López y Pedro Guzmán Pastor realizado para el Ayuntamiento de Palencia, como cliente. La obra corrió a cargo de Ferrovial-Agromán y se finalizó en el año 2.001. También el estudio MV ganó el concurso para urbanizar unas 6 hectáreas del entorno de esta isleta en otro proyecto interesante.

The intrados or lower part consists of a metal arch of the "thorn" type based on a thick steel tube with a horizontal trajectory that is joined to the deck by means of other smaller tubes forming a V with decreasing heights from the center towards stirrups and whose vertices are welded to the lower axis and the upper heads to a series of steel sheets that are embedded in the base of the reinforced concrete slabs that make up the roof. This triangulation system is derived from the Warren-type lattice girder. They are modern and simple structures that are increasingly seen in the peninsular pontoons.
On the deck, a firm made of wooden sleepers stands out with anti-slip grooves well arranged and on the edges, iron railings made up of squares of different sections and San Andrés crosses, embedded in the concrete slabs and covered with a wooden handrail. . The left abutment of the first of the footbridges, which is accessed from Avenida de Castilla, is more powerful because it must cross the plinth produced by the channel at that point and it has steps and ramps to access the promenade next to the river.
The project is from the MV Arquitectos studio made up of Ignacio Martínez Molina, José Luis Gutiérrez López and Pedro Guzmán Pastor carried out for the Palencia City Council, as a client. The work was carried out by Ferrovial-Agromán and was completed in 2001. The MV studio also won the competition to urbanize some 6 hectares around this islet in another interesting project.
