As the sign at the front of the Tolmie Catholic church states, it was built by Mr James Thompson of Mansfield in 1904, with the first church service on 24th May 1904, by Reverend Father Sherman. Later formally opened on 24th March 1907.
The wood framed and clad small church has a steep corrugated iron roof, and three gothic-arched windows on each side. There are a couple of simple wooden benches beside the paved approach. It has been maintained from sponsorship, as shown in the names on the pavers.
The only times that there would be 100 people within a kilometre of the Catholic Church is when the nearby community sports ground draws enough from the sparse countryside for woodchopping events for example.
