En la rúa do Progreso, frente al edificio de la Diputación Provincial de Ourense, más concretamente entre los números 77 y 79, se conserva un hito correspondiente al km 554 de la antigua carretera Villacastín-Vigo. Es una piedra de unos 30 cm. de ancho, sobresaliendo sobre el pavimento unos 35 cm. y apoyado contra la pared en el edificio posterior.
Lleva grabado en bajorrelieve el número 554 con un surco fino y no muy profundo, y una altura de unos 6cm. Todo el contorno de la piedra tiene un rebaje decorativo.
Se trata del único resto que se conserva de esta carretera a su paso por Ourense, siendo además, la principal arteria de la ciudad, como bien dicen las placas que se pueden ver a lo largo de toda la calle:

In Progreso street, in front of the building of the Provincial Council of Ourense, more specifically between numbers 77 and 79, a landmark corresponding to km 554 of the old Villacastín-Vigo road is preserved. It is a stone of about 30 cm. wide, protruding over the pavement about 35 cm. and leaning against the wall in the building behind.
It has the number 554 engraved in low relief with a thin and not very deep groove, and a height of about 6cm. The whole contour of the stone has a decorative recess.
It is the only remaining part of this road as it passes through Ourense, being also the main artery of the city, as you can read in the plaques that can be seen along the entire street.
