Wynnewood View Cemetery is actually some miles from Wynnewood proper. The two cenotaphs are behind the headstone marking the final resting places of their parents, John and Alice Edwards, both of whom predeceased their sons, and photos from
Findagrave strongly suggest that these are replacements, placed between 2010 and 2015. The marker for Willard A. Edwards is a granite slab, about the size of a government-issued headstone, and it reads:
Willard A. Edwards
GM 1C USNR WWII Lost at Sea
June 9, 1918 - June 14, 1944
Son of John and Alice Edwards
------------
The USS Golet (SS-361) was a Gato-class submarine launched and commissioned in 1943, and it disappeared during its second patrol in the Pacific Ocean near Japan during World War II. Japanese antisubmarine records indicate that the Golet was likely the victim of an anti-submarine attack on June 14, 1944. Gunner's Mate Edwards is listed on the Tablets of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, HI.
