A memorial plaque on the west side of the Glenn Heights Municipal Complex gives a brief account of the city's namesake, Joseph Milas Glenn.
The Place:
Glenn Heights is a relatively new addition to the DFW metro area. In the late 1960s Moe Craddock, a Dallas firefighter, opened a 30-acre mobile home park in this undeveloped area, and then went into politics to push for incorporation to prevent nearby DeSoto from annexing his business. After the creation of Glenn Heights Craddock served on the City Council and for several terms as mayor. The population has risen from three hundred or so (when the mobile home park was established) to about fourteen thousand today. In spite of this rapid growth, about half of the city's area is still unimproved land.
The Person:
Jospeh Milas Glenn (1860 - 1935) was one of the early settlers in this area. After his passing his daughter, Ada Lou Glenn, donated his considerable estate to the city which now bears his name.
Year it was dedicated: 1970
