La presidenta de la Diputación de Palencia, Ángeles Armisén, junto a la diputada de Cultura, Carolina Valbuena y de zona, Luis Calderón, y el obispo de Palencia, Manuel Herrero, ha visitado este sábado la localidad de Frechilla para hacer entrega de una de las obras restauradas dentro de esta iniciativa, el taller de restauración, amparada por un convenio entre la administración provincial y la Diócesis.
Este taller, que alcanza este curso 2020-2021 su séptima edición, permitirá hasta septiembre recuperar medio centenar de obras del abundante patrimonio artístico mueble de la provincia.
En este caso, la obra entregada corresponde a un San Miguel Arcángel, una obra atribuida a Diego Valentín Díaz y que data del siglo XVII.
Se trata de un lienzo que pertenece al retablo mayor de la ermita de San Miguel en la localidad de Frechilla. Representa al arcángel San Miguel con grandes alas y portando una lanza con la que apunta al demonio que ha derrotado y se encuentra bajo sus pies.
Realizado sobre soporte de tela de lino muy fino, ligamento de tafetán y formado por dos piezas cosidas, presenta una preparación muy fina, prácticamente inexistente en algunas zonas. Sobre esta imprimación se ha trabajado la escena con técnica al óleo.
El lienzo se encontraba en muy mal estado de conservación, ya que las fibras que componen el tejido estaban oxidadas y quebradizas, de ahí todos los desgarros y agujeros que presentaba.
Esto es debido a la fatiga mecánica que ha sufrido la tela debido a las variaciones de temperatura y humedad, unido a que uno de los largueros del bastidor estaba roto, lo que había provocado el consiguiente destensado, ruptura y deformaciones en el tejido.
Además, en el centro del lienzo existía un gran roto provocado por una lechuza que intentó salir de la parte de atrás del retablo.

In this case, the work delivered corresponds to a Saint Michael the Archangel, a work attributed to Diego Valentín Díaz and dating from the 17th century.
It is a canvas that belongs to the main altarpiece of the hermitage of San Miguel in the town of Frechilla. It represents the archangel Saint Michael with large wings and carrying a spear with which he points at the demon he has defeated and is under his feet.
Made on a very fine linen fabric support, plain weave and made up of two sewn pieces, it presents a very fine preparation, practically non-existent in some areas. On this primer the scene has been worked with an oil technique.
The canvas was in a very poor state of preservation, since the fibers that make up the fabric were oxidized and brittle, hence all the tears and holes it presented.
This is due to the mechanical fatigue that the fabric has suffered due to variations in temperature and humidity, together with the fact that one of the frame spars was broken, which had caused the consequent slack, rupture and deformations in the fabric.
In addition, in the center of the canvas there was a large tear caused by an owl that tried to leave the back of the altarpiece.
