The Livingston Elks Lodge received their charter on September 16, 1892, making it the 5th oldest lodge in Montana. At the corner of S. 2nd Street and W. Lewis Street, the Livingston Elk Lodge No. 246 is housed in a beautiful old two storey brick building, built in 1926. On the front are two granite corner stones. The one nearest the intersection, on the southeast corner of the building, is the original stone from the chartering of the lodge on September 16, 1892. On the opposite front corner is the building's cornerstone, dated 1926.
Naturally, following the lodge's dedication, several newspapers in Montana carried news items to record the event. The following example is from the front page of the May 05, 1927 edition of the Big Timber Pioneer, reprinted from the Livingston Enterprise.

DEDICATED WITH CEREMONY

Four Days Of Real Pleasure Enjoyed By Many Hundreds-Judge Henry L. Myers Gives Splendid Last Day Address

May 05, 1927
Livingston Enterprise: Livingston Lodge 246 Benevolent Protective Order of Elks dedicated its new $50.000 home Saturday afternoon with the beautiful ritualistic ceremonies provided by the grand lodge. Distriet Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Nibbe of Billings presided at the dedication and Associate Justice Henry L. Mycrs of the supreme court of Montana delivered the dedicatory oration. The chairs of the lodge were occupied by Joe Brooks, Edward M. Sybert, Peter Nelson, Arnold Huppert and Frank Beley, all past exalted rulers of the local body.

Although the ritual has never before been used in Livingston and probably never will again be referred to by the local officers participating Saturday. every officiating Elk had his part of the ritual committee and the work was put on in full form. Music for the ceremony was provided by a quartet composed of Jack Merrick, Roy Spencer. Harold Patton and Claire Flint. Mrs. E. Orleman presided at the piano.

The late arrival of train No. 2 from Butte caused a slight delay from the scheduled time for beginning the dedication ceremonies and space in the lodge room was reserved for the visitors. More than 400 chairs were filled and many persons who anticipated attending the services left the building when they found the capacity of the lodge room was heavily taxed.

The address of Senator Myers, a masterpiece in its inspirational message charging the members of Elkdom to live strictly to the teachings of the organization, brought a warm reception for the speaker as he closed after twenty minutes of speaking. Basing his remarks on the Americun home, he likened the new home of the local Elks to that most sacred of all American institutions, the place where a man lives peacefully with his own family. ...

... Following the services of dedication District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Nibbe congradulated the Livingston Elks and told them he considered it a signal honor to be able to preside at the dedication of their new home and temple.
