The building is in what was a previously a mainly industrial, manufacturing area. To the south of the Leeds Liverpool Canal and Aire and Calder Navigation, in its heyday both canals provided excellent transport links, but as time moved on trade declined and many of the manufacturing companies closed down.
The area directly next to the former docks has been transformed since 1996 with a mixture of apartments, bars, restaurants, office space and a major National Museum. Redevelopment has now moved to the area where the manufacturing used to take place, and this building is one of the first new buildings to be erected. It has seven floors and a feature roof terrace.
The building occupies part of a site of a famous factory known as The Temple, and that name has been retained for the area.
The building's name 'Globe Point' is taken from the road the building is on.
