“Frías es una de las poblaciones más hermosas de toda España. Es uno de esos conjuntos con encanto en que parece que el tiempo se detuvo hace muchos siglos y perderse por sus calles es una auténtica delicia.
Frías se encuentra en el Valle de Tobalina, al noreste de la provincia de Burgos, perteneciente a la comarca histórica de Las Merindades y al límite de otra de las comarcas emblemáticas de Burgos: La Bureba.
Frías adquirió importancia partir de la concesión de su fuero por Alfonso VIII de Castilla en 1202. Como curiosidad Frías tiene el título de ciudad desde 1435, por disposición del rey Juan II.
Está asentada sobre un cerro alargado situado en un lugar verdaderamente estratégico y de comunicaciones desde tiempo inmemorial, como lo atestigua el paso de una antigua calzada romana. A sus pies corre el Río Ebro y su puente fue, desde hace siglos, nexo de unión entre las tierras cántabras y vascas con las castellanas de Burgos.
Frías, con su rico conjunto monumental ofrece numerosos alicientes al visitante, como sus empinadas calles de estructura medieval, los restos de su recinto amurallado, el barrio de la Judería, el conjunto de casas colgantes, etc.
No obstante hay una serie de edificios emblemáticos que centran nuestra atención, nos referimos al extraordinario castillo, la iglesias de San Vicente y San Vítores, además del puente romano y medieval. Muy cerca, en Tobera, nos centraremos en la Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Hoz.
Otro de los grandes alicientes de realizar una visita a Frías es que su privilegiada situación geográfica es clave para poder hacer excursiones por dos maravillosas comarcar burgalesas como so La Bureba y Las Merindades.”

Frías is located in the Tobalina Valley, in the northeast of the Burgos province, belonging to the historic region of Las Merindades and on the border of another of Burgos' emblematic regions: La Bureba.
