"About Hendrick "Case" Kortrecht Middaugh
On Hendrick's tombstone, his middle name is spelled Cortright.
In the Pension Roll for 1835 he is shown as being alive and drawing a pension of $80 on 5/30/1834. In the probate records Hendrick is referred to as "of Milford, Pike County". He was buried in Matamoris Airport Park, PA. There is no tombstone marking his grave but he is buried in the MIDDAUGH/ VAN AUKEN Family Ground.

According to the Irish National Heritage "Family Name History" Hendrik/Henry applied for a Revolutionary War pension in April of 1834, indicating he was alive at that time. He was a rifleman and served in the 5th and 6th Battalions of the PA Militia. This is confirmed by the Pike County, PA Pension Roll of 1835 which shows him alive, 80 years old and drawing a pension for service in the PA militia. In the 1790 census for PA, he is shown as living In Upper Smithfield, Northampton County of PA with a family of: himself, three males under 16 and five females. His nickname was CASE. He was a tall man, about 6' 4" and had great strength. He lived on the Delaware River and he owned and used a flat-bottomed boat that he used to ferry people across the river. According to Michael D. Lara in his "Middaugh Family Lineage of Descent", and in the church records of Catherine's and Garretje's baptism, Hendrick's wife's given name is Jannetje rather than Femmetje as is given on other children of Hendrick's. There is some other confusion about the name of his wife. On Page 2343 "Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files" by Virgil D. White, the name of his wife is shown as Lena/Lenah who, after Henry died, married John FRASER. In the book "The VAN AKEN Family" by Warren M. Packer, Hendrick and Femmetje/Jannetje are shown as having 11 children (Pg. 81). Church records for only five of the children have been found. The others, listed by Mr. Packer but for whom church records have not been found are: Charity, Margaret, Jane, Henry and John. Adding to the confusion, in his will Hendrik speaks of 10 children but names only nine. The supposed children not named were Garretje and Charity. A Charity is mentioned in the will but it is indicated she is the daughter of Margaret (Peggy) and John WOOD. Also listed in his will is a grandson, Henry C., without indicating who his parents were."
