El Ayuntamiento de Palencia, ubicado en la Plaza Mayor, es un edificio sencillo de estilo Neoclásico del s XIX. Su primera piedra se coloca el 6 de enero de 1858, pero por problemas económicos no se terminará hasta veinte años después el 1 de septiembre de 1878.

La fachada no tiene mucha decoración, quizás lo que más destaca de esta son sus tres puertas iguales forjadas en hierro. En ellas decorándolas nos encontramos el escudo de la ciudad, el cual consta de dos cruces y dos castillos.

Si miramos hacia arriba, veremos que la fachada se remata con un frontón donde se encuentra un reloj y todo esto coronado por el escudo de la ciudad.

Una vez que entramos en el edificio nos encontramos una escalera de tipo imperial y de fondo dos obras de arte de dos grandes artistas palentinos. La primera un boceto en bronce de nuestro escultor más internacional Victorio Macho, que representa al conquistador Sebastián de Belalcazar, encargo del gobierno colombiano para homenajearle en la ciudad de Popayán.

Justo encima de esta escultura, nos encontramos también con un maravillo e inmenso cuadro de nuestro genial pintor Germán Calvo que ocupa toda la pared titulado “La Raza” y en el que se recoge a grandes rasgos la historia de Palencia. Desde una pareja de palentinos ataviados con el traje de faena con un paisaje de cultivos típicos de aquí y un rebaño de ovejas que hace alusión a la agricultura y la ganadería, con algunos de los monumentos más característicos de la ciudad de fondo, pasando por el clero y la importancia que este tuvo en Palencia como Sede Episcopal junto a un pasaje importantísimo de la historia de Palencia que tiene como principal protagonista a la mujer palentina, terminando por la imagen de nuestro patrón San Antolín cubierto por uno de los productos más típicos de Palencia como son las mantas y la figura de cuatro mujeres que representan las artes, una con la imagen de la Basílica de San Juan de Baños (arquitectura), otra con la imagen de la patrona La Virgen de la Calle (escultura) y otras dos que representan la pintura y las letras.

El resto del edificio se compone de oficinas de la administración local, entre las que se incluye el despacho del alcalde.

Palencia es un municipio y ciudad española, capital de la provincia homónima, en la comunidad autónoma de Castilla y León. Se encuentra situada en la llanura de la Tierra de Campos, a orillas del río Carrión.

Ubicada a 749 m sobre el nivel del mar, dista 48 km de Valladolid, siendo las dos capitales de provincia españolas más próximas entre sí. El municipio cuenta con una población de 76 302 habitantes (INE 2022) sobre una extensión de 94,95 km². Por su parte, el alfoz de la ciudad, conformado por diez municipios, cuenta con más de 20 000 habitantes, que unidos a los de la capital suman más de 100 000 personas. Es un importante centro industrial de Castilla y León.

The Palencia Town Hall, located in the Plaza Mayor, is a simple Neoclassical building from the 19th century. Its first stone is laid on January 6, 1858, but due to financial problems it will not be finished until twenty years later on September 1, 1878.

The façade does not have much decoration, perhaps what stands out the most about it are its three equal doors wrought in iron. Decorating them we find the shield of the city, which consists of two crosses and two castles.

If we look up, we will see that the façade is finished off with a pediment where there is a clock and all this crowned by the city's coat of arms.

Once we enter the building we find an imperial-type staircase and in the background two works of art by two great artists from Palencia. The first is a bronze sketch by our most international sculptor Victorio Macho, representing the conquistador Sebastián de Belalcazar, commissioned by the Colombian government to honor him in the city of Popayán.

Just above this sculpture, we also find a marvelous and immense painting by our brilliant painter Germán Calvo that occupies the entire wall entitled "La Raza" and in which the history of Palencia is broadly collected. From a couple from Palencia dressed in fatigues with a landscape of typical crops from here and a flock of sheep that alludes to agriculture and livestock, with some of the most characteristic monuments of the city in the background, passing through the clergy and the importance that this had in Palencia as the Episcopal See together with a very important passage in the history of Palencia whose main protagonist is the woman from Palencia, ending with the image of our patron saint San Antolín covered by one of the most typical products of Palencia such as the blankets and the figure of four women representing the arts, one with the image of the Basilica of San Juan de Baños (architecture), another with the image of the patron saint La Virgen de la Calle (sculpture) and two others that represent painting and letters.

The rest of the building is made up of local administration offices, including the mayor's office.
