The memorial consists of wrought iron entrance gates to Yorkshire County Cricket Club's Headingley stadium. They have a number of scenes from the life of Hutton incorporated in their design.

His name is written across the top of both gates and an aged Hutton smiles from one side, his face carved into the grills.

On the other side is a wrought iron replica of the famous 1938 Oval scoreboard showing the score when Hutton was finally dismissed for 364.

In between there is artwork depicting Hutton in his famous batting poses, executing a back cut and a lofted on drive. There are also panels showing cricketing equipment.

There is also a plaque on the wall next to the gates.
