Rembrandtplein is a busy square, named after the famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn, located in Amsterdam.
It was the gateway into the city in the Middle Ages.
In the 17th century it was the place farmers sold their dairy and poultry and was known as The Butter Market.
In 1876 a statue of Rembrandt was moved to the centre of the square and it was renamed Rembrandtplein - Rembrandt Square.
During the 20th century Rembrandtplein developed into a nightlife centre with hotels, cafés, pubs and clubs around it.
"Attractions include;
Pathé Tuschinski a modern cinema housed in a historical building that has been a theatre since 1921.
The largest interactive video screen in Europe that dominates one side of the square and can be interacted with using bluetooth mobile phones.
Huis Willet-Holthuisena canal house recreated in the style of the golden age of Amsterdam."
