A plaster bust of Gustavus Adolphus is on display in a showcase dedicated to the dawn of modern warfare at the West Point Museum. Gustavus Adolphus is depicted wearing a sleeveless jacket on top of which is a epaulet with a high collar and a lacy fringe.

A sign next to the bust is inscribed:

Micheli, also known as Karl Aurelius Micheli,
was a sculptor working in Berlin during the
second half of the 19th Century. His bust of
Gustavus Adolphus was presumably modeled
from authentic likenesses available to him
in Berlin.

Gustavus Adolphus was born on December 9, 1594 in Castle Tre Kronor, Sweden. He inherited the throne of Sweden from his father Charles IX at age 16. He reigned from 1611 to 1632 during which time Sweden became one of the leading military forces in Europe. He is is known as the father of modern warfare and the first modern general. His for his military innovations and his tactics have been studied by military leaders including Napoleon Bonaparte and George S. Patton.

Gustavus Adolphus died on November 6, 1632 at the Battle of Lützen, in the Electorate of Saxony, Holy Roman Empire. He was 37 years old.
