The bridge is on the western edge of Newmillerdam Country Park in the parish of Chevet.

Car parking is available at the northern end of a nearby lake, and the area has many footpaths in the woods around the area.

The path under the bridge between Old Royston and Newmillerdam was originally part of a branch of the Midland Railway intended as a direct route to Bradford and Scotland, avoiding Leeds. The project was abandoned through lack of funding when the route reached Thornhill Junction. It was opened in 1905 and closed to scheduled trains in 1968 and is now a 'rails to trails' walking and cycling path.
