La chapelle est à gauche dans le jardin du couvent des Visitandines, au fond de leur petit cimetière.
On y entre dans le jardin par la rampe du 7 rue Edouard Bastide.
Les Minimes, arrivés à Ornans au début du 17e siècle, bâtirent alors leur chapelle et leurs habitations conventuelles. Le couvent, vendu à la Révolution, fut racheté par l'abbé Giros en 1839 au bénéfice des Visitandines qui vont y créer une maison d'éducation. De grandes modifications seront entreprises en 1854 pour adapter les lieux à ce nouvel usage.
Le cloître a fermé en 1936 et le couvent en 1979. La municipalité a racheté les locaux pour y installer la gendarmerie, le Trésor Public et d'autres services administratifs.
La chapelle date de la seconde moitié du 19e siècle.
Le cimetière compte 21 tombes où sont enterrées les sœurs visitandines qui se sont succédées au service de l'éducation des jeunes filles.
L'édifice en pierre est sobre, coiffée d'une croix et percée d'une porte ogivale.
Au fond, un petit autel en bois où siège une statue du Sacré-Cœur de la Vierge Marie.
