A historical marker on the northwest side of the Avoyelles Parish Courthouse gives the history of the first Bowie Knife. Rezin P. Bowie, brother of Alamo combatant James Bowie, claims that he made his first knife here in Avoyelles Parish, and his brother used it to kill Norris Wright in the famous 1827 Sandbar Fight near Natchez, Mississippi.
