This, the fourth courthouse for Avoyelles Parish, was constructed in 1927. During construction, the Great Flood of 1927 displaced about half the people in this parish. An unusual feature was the parish prison on the fourth floor, complete with a gallows for execution, which served untl 1980. The black and white photo was taken shortly after construction.
Year photo was taken: 1928
