Las incógnitas sobre la posibilidad de que la figura del Torico de Teruel, posada sobre la columna derrumbada y ahora en plena restauración, sea una falsificación del toro que inauguró la fuente en 1858 siguen abiertas. El informe técnico evidencia diferencias en el metal utilizado en su fabricación, puesto que la materia prima de la figura en la actualidad no era propia del año en el que se inauguró el monumento. Una aleación de hierro que pone en duda la veracidad del Torico, custodiado durante la Guerra Civil y posteriormente sustituido, presuntamente, en falso. Así, mientras la documentación histórica sospecha que el Torico original estaba hecho de bronce, el informe técnico más reciente alude a una fundición gris.
Conocidos los detalles sobre su materia prima, en un principio originaria de bronce y actualmente de hierro -un dato conocido en 1994, constatado por una inspección del Museo Provincial de Teruel-, también son interesantes otro tipo de características de la mítica figura. Uno de los datos más curiosos de la escultura que vigiló la ciudad desde la plaza del Torico hasta el pasado domingo 19 de junio es su peso, establecido en unos 54 kilos según la documentación municipal. Una cifra que daba cuenta de su supuesta formación de bronce. El archivo, además, revela un tamaño de la escultura de 45 centímetros de longitud, de cola a boca; y 37 centímetros de alto, de la base a los pitones de sus astas. Una figura que posaba sobre la columna anillada de piedra labrada de siete metros de alto, partida en dos por el accidente.
Lo cierto es que la figura, su columna y la fuente han sido sometidas a diferentes remodelaciones a lo largo de la historia, que ya suma 164 años. La popular fuente del Torico por todos conocida fue edificada en el año 1858, como sustituta de la construida por el ingeniero francés Quinto Pierres Vedel en el siglo XVI, quien también canalizó el agua de la ciudad. La columna fue coronada por la figura del toro, custodiada por la familia Gómez Cordobés en 1938 por la Guerra Civil, hasta ser de nuevo colocada por el ejército franquista una vez finalizada la contienda. 1930, 1969 y 2003 son otros años importantes, donde la fuente, con sus cuatros cabezas de toro por donde emana el agua, también fue restaurada.
The unknowns about the possibility that the figure of the Torico de Teruel, perched on the collapsed column and now in full restoration, is a forgery of the bull that inaugurated the fountain in 1858 are still open. One of the most curious facts about the sculpture that watched over the city from Plaza del Torico until last Sunday, June 19, is its weight, established at around 54 kilos according to municipal documentation. A figure that gave an account of its supposed bronze formation. The file also reveals a size of the sculpture of 45 centimeters in length, from tail to mouth; and 37 centimeters high, from the base to the pitons of its antlers. A figure posing on the seven-meter-high ringed column of carved stone, split in two by the accident.
The truth is that the figure, its column and the fountain have been subjected to different remodeling throughout history, which now adds up to 164 years. The well-known Torico fountain was built in 1858 as a substitute for the one built by the French engineer Quinto Pierres Vedel in the 16th century, who also channeled the city's water. The column was crowned by the figure of the bull, guarded by the Gómez Cordobés family in 1938 during the Civil War, until it was placed again by the Francoist army once the war was over. 1930, 1969 and 2003 are other important years, when the fountain, with its four bull heads through which the water emanates, was also restored.
