El escudo de Ronda con caracteres republicanos que se conserva actualmente en el Convento de Santo Domingo, fue tallado en la carpintería de Don Manuel Domínguez que en aquellos años se ubicaba en la calle San Carlos esquina con Mariano Soubirón.
Ese es el motivo por el que la citada talla lleva la rubrica del propietario de la misma.
La talla la realizó Antonio González Sánchez, que trabajaba en la mencionada carpintería y a la sazón era concejal (lo fue durante la II República, desde 1.931 a 1.936). .Dicha obra tiene la particularidad de estar tallada bajo una corona torreada a diferencia de las que usualmente rematan este tipo de escudo que son , genéricamente, coronas reales y o imperiales.
El Ayuntamiento de Ronda le concedió un premio a la carpintería por la magnífica factura de esta pieza que es colocada en el salón principal del mismo, lugar en el que permanece hasta que el cambio político le obliga a ser descolgado y ocultado.
Permanecería de esta manera hasta que los nuevos rumbos políticos permiten su reposición a la Casa Consistorial.
Como podrán apreciar, no hemos querido profundizar demasiado en las causas, desarrollo y el final de lo que la triste historia de nuestro país denominó como la "guerra civil".
Si todas las contiendas son reprobables, ni que decir tiene aquella en la que los enfrentados son en ocasiones, miembros de la misma familia. Las guerras solo acarrean muerte, hambre, destrucción, vidas rotas, futuros inciertos, venganza y resentimiento entre los vencedores y vencidos.
Es de esa manera, que aquí solo pasaremos de puntillas sobre lo acaecido en nuestro ayuntamiento aquel fatídico 18 de Julio de 1.936.
Ante los acontecimientos políticos del alzamiento y dada la celeridad y confusión reinante en aquellos momentos en nuestra ciudad, los concejales (Entre los que se encontraba mi tío, Antonio González) se hallaban reunidos en el Ayuntamiento con el Teniente de Alcalde como Presidente, ya que según algunas versiones el alcalde se encontraba en La Línea de la Concepción. En la sala de plenos son sorprendidos por las fuerzas militares de Ronda; entraron disparando hiriendo a algunos de estos. Los allí reunidos salen precipitadamente y todos se ocultan de la manera que pueden.
En los días posteriores Ronda es bombardeada desde el aire, y Antonio González, como otros rondeños, ante lo complicado de su situación decide trasladarse a Málaga junto a su esposa y su hijo. Su amigo,el Señor Verdú lo aloja en un almacén de su propiedad.
Cuando las tropas franquistas se acercan a la capital de la provincia, deciden trasladarse en ferrocarril hasta La Línea de la Concepción para que la Cruz Roja Internacional lo pudiese trasladar a Gibraltar. Para poder realizar este desplazamiento con cierta seguridad finge estar enfermo y lo acompaña una de sus hermanas(Purificación) que había enviudado recientemente.
Llega a su destino sin percance alguno.
Un cuñado suyo , con residencia en Gibraltar, realizó los trámites necesarios ante la Cruz Roja internacional. A la espera de que pudiera realizar se se alojó en casa de un hermano y vivió tras un armario durante una semana. La Cruz roja Internacional pudo evacuarlo a Gibraltar de noche.
Se dice erróneamente que esta talla fue realizada en la Cooperativa Rondeña del Mueble, sita en el mismo edificio donde se ubica el Palacio de Congresos
La historia de esta empresa rondeña comenzó Una vez pasada la Guerra Civil. Después de la contienda vuelve a Ronda el Capitán Sr.. Santoyo y es él junto con unos trabajadores que quedaban de la antigua Carpintería Domínguez los que fundan la Cooperativa Rondeña del mueble , lo nombran a él como presidente , y se instalan en el Claustro del Convento de Santo Domingo (Hoy Palacio de congresos) hasta el cierre de esta empresa, que ocurrió tras la jubilación de su presidente.
Rafael Santoyo Guerrero y Antonio González Sánchez eran cuñados.

Given the political events of the uprising and given the speed and confusion prevailing at that time in our city, the councilors (among whom was my uncle, Antonio González) were meeting in the City Hall with the Deputy Mayor as President, since according to some versions the mayor was in La Línea de la Concepción. In the plenary room they are surprised by the military forces of Ronda; They entered shooting, wounding some of them. Those gathered there rush out and all hide in any way they can.
In the days that followed, Ronda was bombarded from the air, and Antonio González, like other Ronda residents, faced with the complexity of his situation, decided to move to Malaga with his wife and son. His friend, Mr. Verdú, puts him up in a store he owns.
When Franco's troops approached the capital of the province, they decided to take the railway to La Línea de la Concepción so that the International Red Cross could take him to Gibraltar. In order to carry out this displacement with some security, he pretends to be sick and is accompanied by one of his sisters (Purificación) who had recently been widowed.
He reaches his destination without any mishap.
A brother-in-law of his, residing in Gibraltar, carried out the necessary procedures before the international Red Cross. Waiting for him to perform, he stayed at a brother's house and lived behind a closet for a week. The International Red Cross was able to evacuate him to Gibraltar at night.
It is erroneously said that this carving was made at the Cooperativa Rondeña del Mueble, located in the same building where the Palacio de Congresos is located.
