The city of Bozeman is a college town, with a large School of Art, hence scads of resident artists. This lead to a sincere dedication to the arts by the City of Bozeman, resulting in dozens and dozens of works on display throughout the city. Certainly the largest gathering of art works is at the Bozeman Public Library, the majority of the works located in an art park behind (south of) the library,
Bozeman Sculpture Park.
One of the two tallest sculptures in Bozeman Sculpture Park,
Re Balance is the product of sculptor Dana Kuglin, someone known for her use of reconstituted materials, a practice which dominates this work.
While we're not, by any means, expert in the field of avian identification, our guess is that this sculpture represents a vulture, or a turkey vulture. Possibly made of mortar over a steel wire frame, the vulture appears to be alighting on tall reeds, actually flat strips of steel. Vulture and reeds appear to be balanced precariously atop a repurposed oxygen or acetylene bottle top, atop another complete oxygen or acetylene bottle.
Dana Kuglin
Kuglin graduated from MSU in 1990 with a BFA in graphic design leading to full time sculpting in 1997. A lover of reconstituted materials and large form sculpture, Dana creates his naturally inspired pieces in conjunction with his client base. Using the foundation of their expectations and the relationship between both ends to form a project from inception to completion, giving each piece a unique weight and presence.
Kuglin’s love of large-scale public pieces and collaborative entities makes the Art Crossing a perfect home for an artist already involved with the Face of Utah and Art Around the Corner exhibitions in West Valley City and Saint George, Utah respectively.

Inside Art Crossing
Mission Statement:
To place public art that enhances the cultural experience for Bozeman area residents and visitors to the Gallatin Valley.
Vision:
The Gallatin Art Crossing (G.A.C.) exhibit hosts a variety of artwork introducing viewers to many artistic approaches. The main focus of the organization is to select and place sculptures throughout the Bozeman area. All sculptures, unless noted on their plaque, are available for purchase during their tenure in the program An additional goal of the program is to add at least one piece to our permanent public collection each year. The community assists in this process by voting for their favorite sculptures online which helps the board select the People’s Choice Award winner. The winning piece, along with two to three other pieces are then voted on by the G.A.C. board for possible purchase and permanent placement.
