A horizontal sundial is located on the northwest part of the Bowdoin College campus, southwest of Massachusetts Hall. It sits on the lawn mounted on a square concrete pedestal about 4 feet above the ground. The dial is marked with Roman numerals on the hour and subdivided into 20 minute intervals. Below the face is a bas relief sculpture of a winged hourglass representing the rapid passage of time. Below is he inscription:
