Absolut is a Swedish Vodka brand that has been produced since 1879. The factory was started by the businessman Lars Olsson Smith who wanted to produce pure spirits, free of toxic impurities. This later gave him the name "The King of Vodka". His portrait is on every bottle of Absolut Vodka.

The name "Absolut" originated from the Swedish name "Absolut renat brännvin".In 1979 it was given the more international name Absolut. It got a new, clear bottle with text printed directly on the bottle. At the same time, there was massive advertising and the brand managed to become the third best-selling liquor brand after Bacardi and Smirnoff.
In 2003, 73 million liters of Absolut Vodka were exported to the USA and this is the largest export area.
