At the northern edge of the Bozeman Sculpture Park, Crabapple Ridge is a rather fanciful rendition of what one may believe to be a phone booth.

The city of Bozeman is a college town, with a large School of Art, hence scads of resident artists. This lead to a sincere dedication to the arts by the City of Bozeman, resulting in dozens and dozens of works on display throughout the city. Certainly the largest gathering of art works is at the Bozeman Public Library, the majority of the works located in an art park behind (south of) the library, Bozeman Sculpture Park.

We really don't know what to make of this offering by artist and sculptor Clarice Dreyer. A cast aluminum sculpture, one of the media Clarice is known for, it looks much like a flight-of-fancy rendition of a phone booth, but with a cross gabled roof, Ionic tree trunk columns at each corner, simulated foliage arrayed about, all standing on a low rubblestone base. Inside is a bird bath, complete with aluminum bird on an aluminum branch. The title, Crabapple Ridge suggests that the little round protrusions covering the Ionic columns would be crabapples, though, in our experience, very few crabapple trees bear their fruit on their trunks. 😊
Clarice Dreyer
Clarice Dreyer was born in Missoula, Montana. She studied at Montana State University (B.F.A., 1979) and the University of California, Berkeley (M.F.A., 1981). Among numerous awards and commissions, she has received three fellowships from the NEA. In 1994, she was a resident artist at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center''s Arts/Industry program in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Her work is housed in private and public collections including the The Spokane Library, Washington, and the Montana Justice Building, Helena, Montana.

Clarice Dreyer has worked with metal, creating installations and sculptures that combine nature with energy and calmness. She also works with oil and encaustic to create abstract images of nature through colors

Gallatin Art Crossing + Sculpture Park
Inside Art Crossing Map goes Here Mission Statement:
To place public art that enhances the cultural experience for Bozeman area residents and visitors to the Gallatin Valley.

Vision:
The Gallatin Art Crossing (G.A.C.) exhibit hosts a variety of artwork introducing viewers to many artistic approaches. The main focus of the organization is to select and place sculptures throughout the Bozeman area. All sculptures, unless noted on their plaque, are available for purchase during their tenure in the program An additional goal of the program is to add at least one piece to our permanent public collection each year. The community assists in this process by voting for their favorite sculptures online which helps the board select the People’s Choice Award winner. The winning piece, along with two to three other pieces are then voted on by the G.A.C. board for possible purchase and permanent placement.
