The
SS Utopia was an immigrant ship commanded by Captain George Stewart, which left Plymouth (England) on 23rd July 1862, and arrived at Keppel Bay on 6th November 1862 with 324 immigrants. The grey stone memorial stands about a metre high on a square concrete pad on a grassy park strip between Quay Street and the Fitzroy River.

In 1912 there was a 50 year anniversary celebration for those immigrants that had arrived from the Utopia in 1862. [ex- SS Utopia ]
