The church was built in 1987 and was used as a prayer room or "tsasouna" in the first year. In 1988, it was consecrated as a church by Metropolitan Leo. This beautiful wooden church was designed by Seppo Latvala, based on the old part of Petsamo Upper Monastery.

"The orthodox church of Nellim is dedicated to the Holy Trinity Triphon of Petsamo. The church was built in 1987 as a chapel. A year later Metropolitan Leo consecrated it as a church. The church is designed by Seppo Latvala. The design is based on the old part of the church of Petsamo Upper monastery. The church is one of the churches built after the war with the help of reconstruction funds. The church is also used tor penorming ecumenical seremonies.
The Feast "Praznik" is celebrated on the day of Holy Trinity. The yearly memorial day of St. Triphon of Petsamo is celebrated the 15th December. The Feast of pilgrimage of Triphon of Petsamo is celebrated the last weekend of August. The feast starts by the lake Tsarmijarvi by the cross of traveller with a litany-service. The cross has been built to the memory of the deceased left behind in Petsamo and the work of generations, born in Petsamo. At the graveyard next to the church of Nellim tere is a monument. out in the form of "Grobu" where you can light candles to relatives who are buried elsewhere.
St. Triphon of Petsamo was born at the end of 15th century in the province of Tver. Triphon left to preach to Lappish people about Jesus Christ, he is called the apostle of Skolt Sami. He settled down by the Arctic Ocean on the bank of Petsamo river. As a result of 30 vears of self-sacrificing and apostolic education the church of Hristov was built. It was later renamed as Triphon monastery.
