We were passing by and spotted the newly painted utility box, the artist was in the process of putting a protective top coat over the art work to protect it. The painting features native birds, the pukeko and kiwi. But as this little settlement is used as accommodation for the skiing area and mountains just up the road in the Tongariro National Park, the artist has kitted out the native birds in Ski gear, look closely and you will spot the Pukeko on a snowboard and the Kiwi on skis. The Skifield is a few kms up the road past National Park. And the famous Spiral Lookout (railway construction) is just a few meters away, across the road.
