During the American Revolutionary War, San Antonio was not part of the American colonies who had declared their independence form the rule of Great Britain. However, San Antonio was one of the largest towns in the Mexican state of Texas. The demand for supplies made trade goods from San Antonio worth hauling the few traces and trails that existed then between Texas and where the Revolutionary fighting was occurring.

Patricio Antonio Rodrigues apparently enlisted to help fight against the British and support the American colonies. Rodrigues was part of a military group from San Antonio under the command of Bernardo de Galvez who was tasked as a Quartermaster to hauling needed supplies from San Antonio to those troops of soldiers from Texas who were fighting in the Revolutionary War.

The marker indicates that Patricio Antonio Rodrigues had been born November 2, 1748 and had died during some time before July 21, 1817, years after his duties as a Revolutionary War soldier had ended.
