Vuonna 1908 valmistui Frithiof Strandellin piirtämä nelikerroksinen tehdasrakennus.

[EN] Today, the large brick building known as Verkahovi, a service home for the elderly, was once the famous Verkatehdas, where fabric was produced, e.g. for the Russian army.

"The Turku Verkatehdas was a textile factory that operated in Turku from the 1870s to the 1970s and manufactured sweaters and other woolen products. In the early 1950s, with almost 2,000 employees, it was the second largest employer in Turku after the Crichton-Vulcan shipyard owned by Wärtsilä. In the northeast corner of the sixth district, on the so-called Tervatori or Multavieru The buildings of the factory that operated in the area later housed many other textile companies, until in the 1990s the largest factory building was renovated into the service home Verkahovi, and apartment buildings were erected in place of the other buildings." In 1908, a four-story factory building designed by Frithiof Strandell was completed. This building is pictured here on the Waymark and is the only remaining factory building in the area. Its shape is a tapering triangle. In addition to the service home, there are a few businesses and a grocery store in the building.
