Prolific long ball hitter Hank Greenberg starred for the Detroit Tigers during the 1930s and 40s. During that time, he led the Major Leagues in home runs on three occasions and RBIs four times. His lifetime totals fall a little short of some other notable sluggers but that was due to four years spent in military service during the prime of his career.
The five-time All-Star also won two World Series and won two American League Most Valuable Player awards. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1956 and had his number (5) retired by the Detroit Tigers. After his playing career was over, he became a successful baseball general manager/co-owner with the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox as well as a successful investment banker.
