This small marker indicates where the Santa Fe Trail crossed the Arkansas River. The nearby Cimarron Ranch (now a park) was an important way station on the trail, and this site was known as the Cimarron Crossing. The marker is a brass plaque set in a stone monument, with an information sign above it.

Why?:
The Santa Fe Trail was used mainly for trade, and to a lesser extent immigration. The U.S. Army made use of the Santa Fe Trail during the Mexican-American War to invade what is present-day New Mexico.

The marker is on the north side of Highway 400; turn in on the side road and park.
